"A Private Inn Reserved for One Group per Day"

Uenoya is located in Ogi-cho, a town nestled along the Kumano Kodo trail in the central southern part of Mie Prefecture, where 90% of the town is mountainous. Surrounded by mountains and facing the Ochiyama River, a first-class river, it enjoys a tranquil location. You can experience a non-routine surrounded by nature.

The building of the accommodation was used as an inn for travelers along the Kumano Kodo 170 years ago. Over time, the role of the inn was lost, and in the previous generation, it operated as a tofu shop. The building, which began to show signs of deterioration, was once considered for demolition. However, it was deemed regrettable to end the building that had been passed down through generations. Therefore, the present owner, who is an architect, started renovation work in 2002. Unlike conventional designs, the renovation was carried out in a form that reused dismantled materials in a different way without discarding them. The completed building, which took one year to complete, incorporates various innovations, such as utilizing flooring materials as doors, using transoms upside down, and renovating the second-floor floor into a double-height space. For a time after the renovation, the old yet new Uenoya was also used as a gallery. Please come and visit "Uenoya, a Traditional Inn along the Ancient Kumano Kodo Path".
